When using work equipment, previous training remains valid only as long as the equipment\u2019s operation and the associated risks remain unchanged. In accordance with the requirements of the Norwegian Labour Inspection Authority, when new machinery or tools are acquired, the employer must assess whether employees require additional equipment-specific training to ensure safe working practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here are the circumstances in which new training is compulsory:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u27a1\ufe0f When new equipment has different controls or functions \u2013 if the buttons, control logic or operating modes differ from what the employee is used to \u2013 training must be updated. This helps to prevent errors when operating the equipment in real-world working conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u27a1\ufe0f When safety equipment or safety systems are updated \u2013 new emergency stop solutions, sensors or locking mechanisms require new knowledge. It is important that staff know how the safety systems work and what to do in unforeseen situations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u27a1\ufe0f When a new model presents a different or higher level of risk \u2013 greater power, different moving parts or new hazards \u2013 this means that the old training is no longer sufficient. This helps to prevent injuries, which often occur as a result of an incorrect assessment of risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u27a1\ufe0f When an employee has no experience with a new type of equipment \u2013 even if the equipment is designed for a similar task, the way it works may be completely different. Additional training ensures that the employee works safely from day one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u27a1\ufe0f When working methods change due to new equipment \u2013 if new technology requires a different approach to work organisation, installation or maintenance procedures, training must be updated. This helps to ensure that the entire process is carried out in accordance with the new safety standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
